Digital Skills in Sub-Saharan Africa -Spotlight on Ghana

Technology is transforming the global economy, and more change is coming. More than half of the global
population will have access to technology in 2019, compared to 30 percent in 2010. Nearly 65 percent will have
access to mobile phones. This shift is reshaping the skills people will need to access markets, operate factories, or run
their own businesses. While researchers have made numerous estimates about the impact of this skills shift, few
have examined the dramatic effect on Sub-Saharan Africa.
This report shines a light on the crucial need for digital skills in Sub-Saharan Africa with a particular focus on Ghana. It
identifies why and how demand for digital skills is expected to evolve, the scale of and opportunity presented by that
demand, and how different stakeholders —particularly the private sector—can play a role
