Vodafone provides cheaper internet bundles, especially for mobile users, which is a great selling point in an emerging market. The Red brand network provider also offers extensive fiber connection for companies, even in some rural areas. Currently, Vodafone’s market share of mobile subscriptions in Ghana is around 19.59%. Surfline was one of the first networks to get certification to provide 4G connectivity in Ghana. This certification gave it a first-mover advantage during a period where a lot of people wanted faster connection speeds. Surfline focused on providing internet devices such as modems, Mifi’s, and routers instead of delivering connectivity to portable devices through SIM cards. The downsides to Surfline were that internet packages were expensive, and the network was not available in some places. Surfline Ghana has ceased operations due to costs of operations.
Busy 4G
Busy Internet has been around far longer than most people think. This is because the brand rose to prominence after getting a license to provide 4G connectivity.
Busy quickly became a more affordable alternative to initial 4G connectivity providers, Surfline and MTN Ghana.
Similar to Surfline, Busy 4G focuses on providing services through internet-specific devices instead of through SIM cards for mobile devices.
AirtelTigo
AirtelTigo is a combination of two brands Airtel and Tigo. Both brands had been struggling to keep up with the immense growth of other networks, leading to a merger in 2019. AirtelTigo now has a sizeable market share, offering internet services mainly to mobile phones. Internet packages on the network are also affordable and come with bonuses.
iBust
iBust focuses on a specific niche. It mostly provides services to businesses in Accra and Tema (Greater Accra Region).The ISP started operation in April 2008, making use of wireless broadband technology from ArrayComm to offer services. What’s more, iBust uses a “smart” antenna array to enhance radio frequency (RF) coverage to boost the network’s speeds and traffic capacity.
